Greta Fletcher, Media Specialist
Greta Fletcher is the Media Specialist and Digital Lead Teacher (DLT) for Asheville Primary School.
As the Media Specialist she works with the Preschool and Primary Montessori Classrooms. Preschool lessons include a storytime that connects to classroom themes and students checkout books to keep in their rooms for a daily reading time. Primary classes receive varied lessons in Information and Technology Skills (include library use and book circulation), research skills, and lessons in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). She also "pushes in" to classrooms to assist teachers as needed. Greta also serves as the DLT (Digital Lead Teacher) and co-tech contact for the school.
Greta obtained a Bachelor of Arts in History/Secondary Education from Montreat College, a Master of Arts in Secondary Education from Western Carolina University, and a Master of Library and Information Studies from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. In December 2017, she became a National Board Certified Teacher. Greta began her career as a Secondary Social Studies teacher in McDowell County where she also served as both a secondary and elementary Media Coordinator at McDowell High School, Glenwood Elementary and Old Fort Elementary. Greta is happy to now be serving the people of Asheville at Asheville Primary School.
I desire to help all individuals develop into ethical, independent, lifelong learners who will share love, knowledge, power and blessings with others. I enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds. I rely heavily on my undergraduate and graduate backgrounds in history/social studies education and my natural love of nature and science to help each individual become equipped to access resources needed for a productive life in which they are citizens contributing to the overall well-being of mankind. I want to see each person with whom I work to develop a strong self-esteem and know that with experience and determination, he/she can achieve success. I welcomed the offer to work at Asheville Primary because of its welcoming atmosphere and the opportunity to work in a Montessori setting.
Greta and her husband enjoy living in Old Fort where they are often found working on various landscaping projects, enjoying the outdoors, and being active with their families and church community.
