Degrees and Certifications:
Dr. Ivry Cheeks, Assistant Principal
My name is Ivry S. Cheeks. I have been in education for 26 years. I am originally from Winston-Salem where I eventually began my teaching career as a former Career and Technical Education Teacher. I taught at the middle school level for six years before I decided to return to my Alma Mater at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and major in School Counselor Education. I have been a counselor at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I served as a counselor for 14 years before deciding to return to college and received a post - master's certificate in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. I have been a school administrator for the past six years. However, I did decide to take a year off from public education and worked in a granted funded position as a high school career coach with Randolph Community College while I was matriculating through the doctoral program in Educational Leadership at East Carolina University. I completed my dissertation on creating a career readiness program for high school junior in conjunction with Randolph Community College. I also completed the training and requirements to become a certified Career Development Coordinator during my time with Randolph Community College.
I believe that this is a wonderful opportunity for me to now come and join the administrative team, faculty, staff, and families at Asheville Primary School for the upcoming school year. I truly enjoy working with our students and teachers in striving for academic excellence and greatness. Please remember that my greatest joy is to be of service so if there is anything that I can do to assist you in any way possible, please do not hesitate to contact me.
