• Chrome Theme of the Week

Posted by A. Cathcart on 4/24/2018 3:54:20 PM

My Help Desk crew and I have agreed that changing your Chrome Theme is kind of fun. So, we decided to start a "Chrome Theme of the Week". This week, I selected one of my own to honor Harmony. Only my Help Desk Club gets to recommend themes. Please do not email me requests. I will ignore them. Sorry!

If you like it, click the blue "Add to Chrome" button and watch your Chrome browser change. You will also notice an "Undo" button at the top of the page. If you don't like the theme, you can "Undo" it. But, once you close Chrome, you can't reset it back to the default/original theme. If you are blocked from adding the theme, SIGN OUT of your laptop and try again.

  • Check out the Laptop FAQ

Posted by A. Cathcart on 2/21/2018 3:28:23 PM

    What's a FAQ?

Hello AMS students! So, I have created a Laptop FAQ for you. What is a FAQ you may ask? FAQ is an acronym for Frequently Asked Questions. Many of you have emailed me with questions about your laptop and the take home program, so I started the FAQ so anyone who needs the answer will be able to have it. Please continue to send me questions. I am so happy to answer them! My email address is angie.cathcart@acsgmail.net. Now, take a few minutes to browse the FAQ.

  • PowerSchool App Info

Posted by A. Cathcart on 1/11/2018 5:50:35 PM

ImageDid you know you can check your grades online now? Yes, you can! And, you can also use the PowerSchool app on your phone or tablet to check them. Look for Pearson''s Power School app on Google Play or Apple's App store. First you need to claim your account. Check out this video on what you will need to do to claim your account. Once you claim your account, you will need to use your Student UID number (lunch number) and password to log on to PowerSchool to check your grades. If you use the app, you will also need our district code. The code is RLNR. If you need help claiming your account, please contact Ms. Cathcart.

  • How do I check my grades?

Posted by A. Cathcart on 4/17/2017 11:11:39 AM

A guide to grades from Ms. Cathcart

How do I check my grades online? Here's Ms. Cathcart's answer!

How do I log on to check my grades?

    • Click the “Check My Grades” link on the left side of this page.
    • Enter your Student UID (lunch number) and your password.
    • Once the dashboard page loads, click  to open your gradebook.

I am still having trouble. What do I do?

Mak sure you have “claimed” your NCED account. To do this you need to know:

    1. Your student UID number which you may know as your lunch number.
    2. Our school’s 3 digit LEA number. (Hint: It’s 111)
    3. Your date of birth in the format (YYYYMMDD). Use a zero as a placeholder if your month and day are single digits.
    4. A password that you will remember and meets the rules. Your computer password should work well for this. Or, use your formal Middle name and the year of your birth. Be sure to capitalize your middle name. You cannot use periods spaces or exclamation points in your password.

Here’s a video that shows you what to do to “claim” your account. You only have to “claim” your account once.

    Wait! What are security questions?

    • These are used when you forget your password and you need to recover it.
    • They are the answers to the questions that “unlock” your account.
    • Tips for answering these questions:
      • 5 of the 10 questions must be answered but I recommend answering as many as you can.
      • The answers must be 3 or more characters long.
      • Answers cannot be repeated among questions.
      • Answers can contain both upper and lower case letters.

Wait! I still am unsure about some things.  Here is a brief FAQ with answers:

    • What is a Student UID number? This is your lunch number. You should memorize this number if you haven’t already.
    • What is our 3 digit LEA school number? 111
    • What format will you use to enter your birth date? YYYYMMDD
    • Why am I being asked if I am a robot? This is a security measure to make sure you are a real human asking for “entry” into the system.
    • How many security questions must I answer? 5 but you can answer more if you have answers to add. I recommend answering all that you can.
    • How long must each security answer be? At least 3 characters.
    • What do I click to claim my account?
      • Click “Check My Grades
      • From this page, click on the “Claim My Account” button at the bottom.
      • On the next page, be sure to choose "Student Policy" from the drop down menu.
      • Fill in the information asked for.
      • Check the box saying you are not a robot and complete the task you are given.
      • Set up your password. You will have to enter this twice.

  • Google FAQ

Posted by S. Annand on 10/22/2015 1:26:00 PM

ImageHuh? I have a Google Account?

Every student at AMS has aschoolGoogle account. When your computer account is created, your Google account is automatically created too. There are 2 links on the left side of this page that you will find helpful. One will take you directly to your gmail (email) inbox and the other will take you directly to your Google Drive. You must log in to bothusing your full email address. The format for this address is (your username)@acsgmail.net. Youmustuse this address!

If you need help, please see Mr. Annand. He is available in the Media Center every morning from 8:00 - 8:30 am.

I have a personal Gmail account. Why should I use my school account?

    1. Our school Google account has an address book that is set up so you can easily address emails and share documents with both students and teachers. This isn’t easy to do with your personal email. And, your teacher will share documents with your school account.
    2. If anything happens to a document in your school Google account, Mr. Annand can help recover it.

    Is my Google account private?

No. All Google accounts are monitored by the Gaggle service. If Gaggle detects that you are using your Google account in an inappropriate way, your account will be flagged and your grade level assistant principal will be notified.  Your account can be disabled if you have too many flags. Please use our Google services appropriately.

  • So, you are blocked from that site?

Posted by S. Annand on 9/1/2015 8:58:00 AM

ImageYes, it is frustrating to get blocked by our internet filter (Zscaler). But, there may be times when your research leads you to a site that you need. In that case, please use the Unblock Request Form. If I find that the page is full of great information for your research, I will unblock it and send you an email to let you know it's now open. Please give me at least a day to unblock a site for you.
