• Brad Johnson, Principal

Principal Brad Johnson My name is Brad Johnson and I have had the pleasure of working at Dickson for the last 13 years in both the assistant principal and principal roles.  Our school is a unique place in which there is a strong partnership between the school and families.  I am truly fortunate to work with the best students, teachers, and parents in Asheville.  Our Dickson family is the best!

Originally I am from the Buffalo, New York area, but have lived in many areas of the country. In Buffalo, I received a degree in both elementary education and exceptional education. Later I worked in Fairfax County Virginia, New York, and Nevada.  In Las Vegas, I completed my Master's degree as well as getting my certification in teaching English as a second language.

When not at school I enjoy spending time with my family.  We have two boys: sixteen and three, two girls: fourteen, and two.   Additionally, I enjoy hiking in the mountains, keeping bees, gardening, following the Buffalo Sabres and Bills, and enjoying everything that Asheville has to offer.

At Isaac Dickson we believe in an open door policy in meeting the needs of our students and parents.

Please feel free to stop by, I am happy to help in any way I can.

    Marti Sullivan, Assistant Principal

Sullivan Hello! My name is Marti Sullivan, and I'm so excited to be moving into the role of Assistant Principal at Isaac Dickson Elementary for the 2020-2021 school year.

I have been an educator for 22 years. I joined Asheville City Schools in 2005 and Isaac Dickson in 2009. I deeply love this school, its staff, families, and community. I have a Masters in Elementary Education and licenses in both AIG and School Leadership. I have been a National Board Certified Teacher since 2010. I was named the 2020 ACS Teacher of the Year. The decision to leave the classroom after 22 years was not easy, but it is my sincere honor to begin serving our Isaac Dickson Community in this new way. I look forward to supporting our students, staff, and families.

I am originally from NW Arkansas but have lived many places including Florida, where I began my teaching career, and Oregon, where I met my husband. When not working, I love traveling, hiking, being in the mountains and on or near the water, as well as spending time with my family. I have two children. My son is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill, and my daughter is a freshman in the Professional Crafts-Woodworking Program at Haywood Community College. Both of my children graduated from Asheville High School after long careers with Asheville City Schools.

One of my passions in education is to ensure all students have a safe, nurturing learning environment where they feel valued for what they bring to the community. Building trusting relationships with students, staff, and families is crucial in this mission. I am here to work with you in providing the very best eduation for your child. Isaac Dickson is a special place that brings opportunities for unique learning experiences that connect curriculum content to life. We are passionate about empowering students to think and learn for themselves through a model that ensures equity and opportunities for social emotional growth.
