    More Media Center News- Book Swap!

    THE MEDIA CENTER has been collecting books for our annual end of the year book swap.  We need more book donations to make this happen! If you have any children’s books at home that your kids no longer use, we would love to have them for our swap. Our goal is for every student to go home with at least one book.  

    May Dates to keep in mind:

    May 1- May Day Celebration

    May 2- Author Skype Session- Dress like your favorite character (Shark, Spider, Dinosaur, Cat , Unicorn, Goat, Cheetah, Brown, black Bird, or a Kidwith green t-shirt and yellowish flower tie (skunk hat optional)

    May 5- Field Trip  (partnered with Mrs. Garner’s Class 9-2pm)

    May 20 Experience Dickson Night (everyone is welcome) 5:30-7:00

    May  26- Early Dismissal at  12:00pm

    May 27 OR 28 - Field trip

    Attention:The IDES Green Team is building up a Walking Wednesday program, in which students, parents, and teachers all walk to school on the first Wednesday of the month.  This is one aspect of our participation in the Safe Routes to School program.  Our next Walking Wednesday will be onMay 7th.  We will meet in 2 locations- the old Dickson campus on Hill Street and the corner store on Montford & Cullowhee.   We meet at 7:30, start walking at 7:40, and arrive at school at 7:50. Please join us!
    K-2 Parent/Student Dance
    05/30/14 5:30pm - 7:00pm
    All kindergarten, first, and second graders...mark your calendars for your very own DANCE!  Friday, May 30th, from 5:30-7:00 pm in the IDES gym.  We'll have a professional DJ spinning the latest and most danceable songs for you and parents to boogie down!  We'll have group activities, snacks, and dance competitions.  Parents, there may even be a few "Best of the 80's Hits" in there for you, too!  Admission is FREE, but you need to come with a parent(s).  Parents, if you'd like to volunteer to set up or help with snacks or activities, please contact Shannon Waller atshannon.waller@yahoo.com.  Further details to come.
    Don’t forget Wed. 10:00 is the ACES (All Children Exercise Simultaneously) event. Sid Shuffle!

  • Bike and Walk to School Day

    Asheville’s Bike and Walk to School Day May 21st
    This is an extra special walking Wednesday! Prizes will be given to those who participate.
    IDES is participating in Asheville’s annual Strive Not To Drive week.
    Strive Not To Drive Starts this Friday with the First Downtown After Five.  SNTD is a week where Asheville residents set goals to drive less and walk, carpool, or ride bikes more!
    Bike and Walk to School with your friends on Wednesday May 21st!

    Ms. Crystal will help us connect with Ms. Flickenger’s 2nd grade class in Burlington, VT.  We will do a shared reading of The Dot and then we will work together to create one Dot using Google Drawing.

  • Apple Orchard!

    We had a wonderful day at Sky Top.  The weather was perfect and we picked lots of apples.  A big thanks to all the volunteers and Ms. Pamela for driving the bus.

  • November is Picture Book Month!

    Our First Grade class will be participating in the Media Center’s Program- Picture Book Challenge! Get a head start and read some picture books at home. Sent home in Friday’s folder is a recording sheet, please tally each completed picture book.

  • The Martin Luther King Association hosts Peace March & Rally

    ASHEVILLE – On Jan.19, the Martin Luther King Association of Asheville and Buncombe County will lead a March and Rally for Peace and Justice. Marchers will gather at 11:30 a.m. at St. James AME Church, at the corner of Martin Luther King Drive and Hildebrand Street, for music and a brief homily. At noon, they will walk several blocks to the public space facing Asheville City Hall and Buncombe County Courthouse for a rally with speeches and music by local artist WestSound. For more information about the King celebration and related events, contact Oralene Graves Simmons, chairwoman, at 828-281-1624.

  • Meet the Teacher 2015-16

    Meet the teacher for the 2015-16 school year will take place on Tuesday, August 18 from 9-11AM.  You are welcome to drop in any time between those hours to meet your child's teacher and see their new classroom.  We can't wait to see you!
