Winter Weather Reminders

Winter is coming! Here are a few reminders regarding school delays and cancellations due to inclement weather conditions:

  • Please do not call AMS to find out about delays, early releases or cancellations. Instead, call the Asheville City Schools' Weather Hotline at 350-6188.
  • Television and radio announcements will be made on the following stations no later than 6:00 a.m. each day as weather conditions warrant: Radio - WWNC, WISE, WTZR, WSKY, WCQS, WNEW, WESC, WYMI, WTOO; TV - WLOS, WSPA, WYFF, WHNS.
  • If we dismiss early due to weather, an automated message will be sent to the telephone number and email address you have provided to us. Be sure to UPDATE YOUR INFORMATION!
  • We suggest you Like or Follow AMS on Facebook and/or Twitter as announcements regarding delays or cancellations are often shared first on these networks.
  • In addition, we recommend you consider signing up for WLOS's text alert service.
  • If a decision is made indicating "No Buses on Icy Roads", the roads listed below are designated no-travel roads. Historically, these roads are prone to ice making it dangerous for buses to safely travel on. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. Please remember that a bus driver may use their professional judgment on ANY ROAD they feel is unsafe to travel. We encourage you to speak to your regular bus driver to help determine available alternate bus stops when "No Buses on Icy Roads" has been issued.
