Welcome Mr. Garrity!

During yesterday's meeting of the Asheville City Schools Board of Education, Mr. Paul Garrity was unanimously selected as the next Claxton Elementary School Assistant Principal.  He will be joining our Claxton Hive in August 2020.

A student-first educator, Mr. Garrity has stepped in whenever and however needed since becoming a member of the Asheville City Schools family in 2016,

An educator with more than 10 years of experience, he has previously served as a Vance Elementary School 3rd Grade teacher.  He was also an Administrator Intern at both Hall Fletcher Elementary and Asheville Middle School this past school year, which allowed him to assess school-wide challenges and develop improvement initiatives.

A Claxton interview team of nine educators reviewed applications, interviewed candidates, and selected Mr. Garrity to recommend to our Board of Education. I am thankful for our team that put in many hours in seeking out the best person for the job.

I know you join me in congratulating Mr. Garrity on this outstanding accomplishment.

I also want to share an update about Mrs. Becca Davis, our current interim Assistant Principal at Claxton. Mrs. Davis will be re-joining the second grade team for the 20-21 school year. She says, "Claxton Family, I hoped our paths would cross again in the future, and they will! Although I truly enjoyed my experience in administration, my "teacher heart" just isn't finished in the classroom. I'm excited to be able to share with you that I'm staying at Claxton and heading back to the classroom as a 2nd grade teacher. I feel blessed to continue to work alongside you all. I love our Claxton family."

Thank you for your continued support of Claxton Elementary School.  Have a wonderful rest of your evening, and a fantastic summer.

Sincerely,

Mary Nichols
Principal, Claxton Elementary School
